Talk of the Town
This section spotlights past public art with curatorial commentary.
This temporary installation provided by the City of Tucson is an homage to the Dada movement and works such as Duchamp's Readymades. The strategic placement of the work in the middle of the sidewalk provides a bold and provocative means to which the viewer is forced to interact with the work.
Self-referential Brick Wall, 2010
Paint, metal sign.
This work recontextualizes the conventional way we view objects. By mimicking the substrate that the painting is mounted to we are immediately challenged to question our ingrained habits of viewing and perception. Inspired by "The Treachery of Images" by René Magritte, this work confronts our habitual notion to only look at an object at face value.
